Java provinces have many art villages which specialize in a particular type of
art and craft which are then sold to wholesalers in the cities who later sell
them to tourists and exporters.
However, this village
has recently evolved to be a center for handicraft display and showrooms for
villages from across Indonesia. Tembi represents a opportunity for local
artisans to deal directly with the public and buyers, as handicrafts from
different villages are all centralized in one village.They are found in a
number of showrooms located in traditional houses.
As well, buyers are
encouraged to helptrain artisans directly through feedback and suggestions to
help improve the quality and varety of products available. Tembi is also
beginning to host overnightvisitors by developing simple homestays.
